The transfer data, that generally means portfolio buy out, are automatically obtained by Hostmapper.
The system detects a so called "transfer" when most of a company's domains move to another company. Better yet:
when a big part of the domains answered by a company's DNS server starts to be answered by another company's
DNS server. There are times transfers take a while to be accomplished. Sometimes it happens after the portfolio
buy out itself. So, we can't say for sure what's the exact date the operation was made, but we can provide an
approximate estimative of the period when the real transfer was accomplished.
The system recognizes by which company a domain is being hosted by analyzing the DNS server that answer
to it as much as the Webserver where the domains are hosted. The system can currently recognize over 40 thousand
DNS servers and 10 thousand Webservers of webhosting companies. This list is kept updated by our staff with the use of tools developed
specially to perform this task.
The spiders are constantly active. The information that allow us to determine which company a domains is
being hosted by is gathered in the first week of the report publication month. It's noteworthy that if a domain is
registered but isn't being referenced by any site, the spiders won't be able to find it and it won't be considered
in the sample.
Hostmapper's goal is to present the scenery of webhosting in the your local market. For that reason, to build the
rank we use as criterion showing the 50 top companies considering the number of local domains each one of them host.
Hostmapper has two ways to identify which company is actually hosting a domain. It preferentially uses the
analysis of the Webserver where the domain is hosted. If the server can be identified as belonging to your company the data
is computed to your company and not to the one that provides the hosting infrastructure.
All of our staff's best effort are committed to identifying every company's Webservers. In most cases,
we manage to do that even when the company keeps its registry data in anonymity. But it's not always possible, we'll
be happy to receive the list of your webservers to keep your data correct and up to date in Hostmapper report.
